Velma Haag, MSSW, LCSW
Clinical Social Worker

I am a licensed psychotherapist, working primarily with individuals and groups who have the the concerns ofdepression, anxiety, grief, post-trauma or acute stressreaction. I received my Masters degree fromUW-Madison in 1980 and I have been a psychotherapist, working in public and private practice in theColumbia/Sauk/Dane county area since that time.

I came to this work when I joined what was then thedomestic version of the Peace Corps, VISTA, in 1975. The program was aimed at bringing support and education to poverty-ridden areas in the US, so I was expecting an adventure in some challenging corner of the US. Imagine my surprise to find myself stationed3 blocks from my home in Fargo, ND, working with an emergency phone service and emergency response team connected to the regional mental health center! I learned quickly the value of listening deeply and with respect to those who called in need. Today, I still feel deep regard for those who share their stories; I am ever amazed by the courage and creativity that we humans show in the face of some pretty hard times. I am honored to be a part of such changes with those I work with.

I live in the Baraboo area with my husband, cats and dogs. We enjoy taking advantage of what this area offers, whether in town or out in the beautiful countryside. At home, we enjoy doing projects together, the dirtier the better.Beyond that, I’m an avid gardener and reader, finding these times to be my ownstress management practice.

I am pleased to be a part of The Psychology Clinic in Baraboo. This group has shown itself to be a strong and genuine force in what it offers the community and the individuals it works with.
